Short-Term Nursing Care Facilities: There When You Need Them Most

Health & Medical Blog

If you have recently had a surgery or are suffering from a short-term illness and need help taking care of yourself, a short-term nursing care facility may be just the thing for you. A short-term nursing facility is just what it sounds like: a place for individuals to receive the help they need to recover from a short-term issue they are experiencing. If you are on the fence about whether or not you should go to a short-term care facility, here are a few reasons why you should as for a doctor's referral for one near you.

Inadequate Care At Home

Who would care for you if you needed around-the-clock assistance? Imagine breaking both of your legs and losing the ability to care for yourself. Who is there in your life who you could trust to bathe you, clothe you, and take you to the bathroom? For some individuals, finding adequate care at home is a challenge. Perhaps you live alone, with a spouse who you usually care for, or only with your younger children. When getting the care you need is not negotiable, short-term nursing facilities are there to help. There are nurses on staff who have special training to care for individuals who are incapacitated, even just for a short while.

Special Treatments Needed

Another beauty of short-term care is that sometimes there are specific treatments offered right there in the facility. Many short-term nursing care centers have physical therapy specialists on site, which can be very handy for those who are needing it multiple times a day. Instead of having to drive or get a ride to physical therapy during the initial stages of recovery, often when this therapy is needed many times a day, some choose to stay where it is readily accessible.

Peace of Mind

In summary, short-term care facilities can offer the peace of mind people need when they are facing scary medical needs. Instead of living with a knee that needs a replacement or a shoulder needing surgery, individuals may rest easy knowing that if they chose to get the help they need, they would be well cared for. In this way, there is no need to put off what needs to be done. Short-term care facilities are there to help you when you need it most.

Making Changes With Vision Therapy

When my daughter began having academic problems in school and acting out, I knew that something wasn’t right. Her teachers wanted me to put her on ADD medications, but I didn’t think that that was the right course for us. I had serious doubts that ADD was what was causing her problems. I took her to several different specialists before discovering that her issues in school were actually do to a visual processing problem. The doctor recommended vision therapy, not medication, to help correct the problem and get her back on track. The exercises are really starting to pay off, and she’s showing great improvement.
