The gas causes your stomach to expand in an uncomfortable manner. A person may even appear pregnant when extreme cases of bloating occur.

Is bloating a permanent condition?

Although feeling bloated can certainly be chronic or recurring, the condition itself is temporary. Bloating only lasts as long as the air is still trapped in your abdominal region.

What does stomach bloat normally feel like?

When you experience bloating, you will likely feel full, as though you have eaten a large meal. In addition, you may suffer from abdominal pain, cramps and excess gas.

Why does bloating occur?

Stomach bloating is usually associated with digestive health issues. Your body may not be metabolizing food correctly, or there may be issues with the proper elimination of waste.

When it comes to digestion, some people find it difficult to properly break down large amounts of protein. As the undigested food ferments, gas is released. Other individuals may find it difficult to digest carbohydrates. Still, others may have an insufficient amount of healthy bacteria within their gut.

Changes in your hormone levels can also cause stomach bloat. Thus, many women experience bloating just prior to and at the beginning of a new menstrual cycle.

Bloating may also accompany colon and uterine cancer.

What foods can help relieve abdominal bloat?

There are multiple foods that may help with relieving and avoiding bloating, such as the following:

  • Fresh fruits and veggies
  • Fermented foods, such as yogurt, sauerkraut and kimchee
  • Soothing herbal teas and spices
  • Dairy products that have not been pasteurized

Making Changes With Vision Therapy

When my daughter began having academic problems in school and acting out, I knew that something wasn’t right. Her teachers wanted me to put her on ADD medications, but I didn’t think that that was the right course for us. I had serious doubts that ADD was what was causing her problems. I took her to several different specialists before discovering that her issues in school were actually do to a visual processing problem. The doctor recommended vision therapy, not medication, to help correct the problem and get her back on track. The exercises are really starting to pay off, and she’s showing great improvement.
